Pond Hockey Movie

Pond Hockey DVD (private home use)Just received Pond Hockey Movie in the mail.  Friend and old boss Andrew Sherburne is one of the producers.

The movie talks about how some of the true spirit of hockey has virtually disappeared from society.  Once children would run outside, play [pond hockey] on the ice, get scratched up, learn about competition, and learn a lot about life in the process.  Now they run to a rink, where the ‘perfect world’ exists.

Interesting movie with a lot of  well knowns including Wayne Gretzky.  Well put together, interviews are strung together nicely, soundtrack is great (though sometimes a little loopy) and the message clear.

Overall, have to rate the movie well for two reasons.  First, Andrew and his people put together a technically competent, coherent indie film which is never easy to do.  Two, the movie speaks to me.  Instead of driving an hour to the rink, 20 min total practice time, and an hour home, why not just run down to the pond?  Too much sheltering.  Too many rubber coated, plastic, anti-bacterial, safe-edge jungle gyms for kids to learn enough about real life these days.  This movie tells it like it is… and I agree.  A+
